WWW Wednesday [16]

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Books to do a little reading plan update.

This is two weeks worth of books again. I’m starting to see a pattern.

Currently Reading:

    

I am seriously loving Pachinko so far! I got a minor in Korean, and part of that minor included a class on Korean history including the Japanese occupation, and it’s really cool reading this and fitting this story into what I know (what I remember anyway) and learning more about this period.

A Man Called Ove is making me feel all the feels. Ove likes everything just so, and gets quite angry otherwise. I’d probably be afraid of him if I met him in real life. But then he goes and tries to kill himself because he loves his wife so much and he keeps failing and I start to feel really sad for him. And then we get more into his backstory and he’s been crapped on all his life and I feel even more sad.

Recently Finished:

      

The Stowaway was alright. I kept hoping it would… I don’t know, maybe fictionalize parts of Billy’s life that didn’t have actual historical record? Make it more of a story than nonfiction? But now that I’ve looked at the Goodreads page I seen that it actually is nonfiction. So that explains that. Now I guess I can say that the only part of this that I don’t really like was that it switched topics without any transition. A lot. I think it could have used at least a page break in those areas.

Key Lime Pie Murder was meh. I think I’m going to try to stop reading these now? I just really don’t like stopping a series I’ve started unless it is seriously horrible. These are just meh.

Their Fractured Light was really good. Everyone came together and kicked some butt, and oh my gosh am I envious of how talented all these teenagers are at, like, everything. I know, fiction. But still.

You can count on books in The Dark Tower series to be weird, and The Waste Lands was weird. I don’t understand a lot of the mood swings people in this book kept having (mostly Eddie, I think). And why does everyone just know things? And why is everyone okay with it? Idk. It was still really good though, and I am very excited for more Blaine in the next one!

Not to get ahead of myself, but holy crap, these Fever cliffhangers are killing me. Immediately after finishing Dreamfever I had to start the next one. Anyway, this book had me like O_O.

I’m not gonna lie, I don’t think Six of Crows lived up to the hype. Please don’t hate me! I mean, it was good, but not like super-hard-to-put-down good… I honestly don’t like Kaz at all (though he does have another book to grow on me). Yes, he’s way smart and I do occasionally enjoy his assholery, but he’s actually pretty aweful a lot of the time. The rest of the characters were alright, but I don’t think I’ll be fangirling about anyone but Inej.

I kind of almost cried at the beginning of Shadowfever. I did not think I (or Mac) felt quite that way about that character, but I did not want to believe what happened and was actually trying to come up with ways to get around it. Then it un-happened and I was so happy/mad. I very much understood how Mac felt. And oh my, the sexy scenes got me like O_O again.

Home was okay. Again, these random mood changes confuse me (though maybe not as much as in Binti, where she would seem calm then randomly start screaming). And oh my gosh, did Binti’s family get on my nerves. I get it, they have a very group-centric tribe, but I could not stand them. I felt really bad for Binti.

I need to get on some books on my Kindle ASAP! I meant to read a bunch of these this month and only finished one. So I’ll try to get to Operation Hail Storm, and The Girls in the Picture, and if I have a lot of time this weekend The Last Girl on Earth and maaaaybe Song of a Captive Bird. I might have to mix them up with physical books though so my Kindle can charge…
